Who is really on trial? ⚖️ In John's Gospel, Pilate expects a terrified prisoner. Instead, he gets a sovereign King. The interrogator is on defense. The chief priests demand an execution while worrying about ritual purity. The empire panics and uses violence. On the cross, Jesus says "It is finished." The work is done. The execution is the victory.
