Let's talk about haggling with God. ⚖️ In Genesis 18, Abraham steps directly into God's path to negotiate for the city of Sodom, haggling the number of righteous down from fifty to ten. He isn't acting out of arrogance, but out of an intimate knowledge of who God actually is. The empire loves a zero-tolerance policy, collateral damage, and swift destruction. But Abraham fights for mercy. In Matthew 12, we see that exact same Kingdom instinct. The disciples are condemned by the religious elites for picking grain on the Sabbath. The empire's rules have calcified into a structure that prioritizes policies over hungry people. But Jesus defends them, saying: "I desire mercy and not sacrifice." The empire demands that the rules be kept, no matter who gets crushed. But the Kingdom's highest law is mercy. Choose mercy over the rules today.
