Let's talk about complicated fathers. 💔 Today is Father's Day, and the lectionary doesn't give us a Hallmark card. In Gen 21, we see a story of deep family dysfunction where Abraham fails to protect his son, sending Ishmael and Hagar into the wilderness with a single skin of water. The empire sanitizes fatherhood, but the reality is often messy, complicated, and full of grief. Yet, when the water runs out and the boy cries, God hears. Where earthly fathers fail, fall short, or can no longer be with us, God shows up with a well of life. Whether you are grieving, estranged, or just sitting with a deeply complicated legacy today, know that God hears you. Every single time. 💧✨
