Daily Devotional for Jul 19, 2026

2026-07-19: Let's talk about the urge to pull weeds. 🌱 In Matthew 13, workers want to immediately rip the weeds out of the wheat field. That is the imperial impulse: to purge, violently extract, and create a sanitized environment. But the landowner says no—if you pull the weeds, you uproot the wheat, too. The Kingdom refuses to use the empire's tools of extraction, choosing patient presence over a violent purge. So what do we do while living in a messy field? In Genesis 28, an exhausted, guilty Jacob falls asleep on a rock in the dirt and discovers that this messy place is the very gate of heaven. "Surely the Lord is in this place—and I did not know it." The empire claims God is only in weed-free, purified temples. The Kingdom says God is right here in the entangled, unresolved reality of your actual life. You just have to wake up. ✨
