Daily Devotional for Jul 22, 2026

2026-07-22: Let's talk about almost-broken things. 🌾 In Matthew 12, Jesus faces a plot against his life. Instead of escalating or fighting for territory like the empire does, he withdraws. Matthew quotes Isaiah to explain this behavior: "He will not break a bruised reed or quench a smoldering wick." A bruised reed and a smoldering wick are almost-broken things. The empire has a strict protocol for almost-broken things: snap them, snuff them out, and replace them. The empire optimizes for performance and discards what isn't fully functional. But Jesus does the exact opposite. He is deliberately and carefully gentle with things that are almost gone. He doesn't view exhaustion as a liability or evaluate your worth by your utility. God has never once looked at you and reached for the efficiency calculation. If you feel like a bruised reed today, you are safe in the Kingdom. ✨
