Daily Devotional for Jul 27, 2026

2026-07-27: Let's talk about two kinds of wisdom. 🐑 This week we are exploring Wisdom and its Counterfeits. James 3 gives us a clear diagnostic tool: earthly wisdom (cunning, strategic, transactional) versus heavenly wisdom (peaceable, gentle, willing to yield). In Genesis 30, Jacob is trying to survive his exploitative father-in-law, Laban. When Laban rigs their wage agreement, Jacob reaches for the only tool available to him: earthly wisdom. He schemes right back. Jacob isn't wrong to want the compensation he earned, and sometimes, surviving a deeply unjust system requires a cunning that doesn't look like wisdom from above. This week, we will watch Jacob use every tool in his earthly wisdom kit to survive the empire, while underneath it all, God keeps showing up with something better.
